Straight outta Brighton....!
I love it when a new label starts up; I like it even more when there's actually something to get excited about. Hell, it's a hard game to play nowadays, what with all the computers and the downloading and MP3's and more downloading.
With Concrete Plastic we have a small label which is looking to put out a number of quality releases over an undisclosed period of time. Good show I say, I'd rather invest in a label that looked into what it was doing and put together a mix of established talent backed up with new and exciting artists rather than just churning out the same old same or hitting us up with some inaccessible twiddling.
So the First EP is The Collectors - Trainer EP' which comes courtesy of Iain Law, who has previously impressed time and time again as Yunx. It's an electro house affair for the best part giving a nod in the direction of Detroit whilst also maintaining an element of all-round 'electronica'.
The first track 'Air Max' chugs along at a steady pace, driven by some well rounded beats and a touch of acid squelch here and there. One for all occasions, seemingly flirting between dance floor and ambience. Waffle picks up the pace with some very slick arrangements and production, an electro number packed with little touches of everything which seem to engulf all around.
Stan Smith then takes the EP by the scruff of the neck, it's a complete head nodding analogue beast with some sick live drum beats and lush little melodies. Shell Toe brings things to a close on a Detroit/Warehouse tip and takes it straight to the dance floor once more. It's a different take on a tried and tested sound, that just works so well.
Overall I'd recommend listening to this at the beach or in the sea, on one of those water proof walkmans that were huge and all yellow (god they were awesome). Or you know, just listen to it anywhere simply because it's such an extremely well crafted and much needed push in the right direction for electronic music. Top Stuff on what's sure to be a top draw label.
