winnipeg canada is home to lots and lots of people, [as is the custom with bigger citys] and one of em is a guy named aaron funk who makes music under the alias venetian snares- his music is good, how so? it apparently caught the attention of one mike paradinas, label head over at planet-mu, who asked him to release music on the influential label, which is home to such artists as leafcutter john, hrvatski and mike p himself, yippee!
i recently got in touch with funk to axe him a few questions about his music and other important stuff, what followed is as follows___>
..........
yer reported to have yer name on three releases on planet-mu next year, was
this entirely unexpected?
No, Mike asked me first.
super; now that yer set to release on a larger label, yer work will be met
with more scrutiny from a wider audience, does this worry you any?
Hadn't really thought about it, now that I am thinking about it I'm not worried.
yer releases leading up to now have displayed a fondness for dark themes,
obviously the hardcore spirit you and the labels you've released on embrace
this, how much of that will be represented at planet-mu?
Good question. One of my Planet µ releases, "Songs About My Cats" isn't dark
at all, well maybe at moments, but not entirely. Because it is all music inspired
by my cats, I don't find cats especially evil or darklike. I love them.
The rest of the shit, Making Orange Things collaboration with Speed Ranch and
the Defluxion 7" are more "dark themes" I suppose. Although the stuff with Speed
Ranch I would consider more brutal than dark.
>>>did you know? winnipeg is canada's christmas capitol?
yer fond of odd time signatures, how did this start?
Normal time sigs became boring and obsolete.
so do girls , sometimes...are all canadian girls fine?
Yes they are.
and gullible...?
No I doubt it.
>>>did you know? winnipeg is home to game show host monty hall?
you play at raves...how much of your material do concider dance floor friendly?
I don't play at many straight up raves. I would consider alot of it dancable
but I'm the shithead that makes it!
shithead, indeed...does trance really suck?and if so, why?
Trance is shit, *censored*ing boring. It's too normal and repetative, predictable.
agreed, trance can eat it... what influenced you to persue a career in music?
The fact that all I ever do is write music.
good thing it doesnt suck hard;overall canadian beer is quite good, so why
does canada import american beer?
Probably some sketchy trade agreement between Mulroney and Reagan back in the
day. I like american beer, but I don't drink it in canada. When in america I
drink Pabst and Old Milwaukee and all that cheap crap.
>>>did you know? winnipeg is Cree for "muddy waters"?
your music has some scary moments, are you a closet and/or recovering metalhead?
I don't find anything scary about a bunch of men with guitars.
i beg to differ...[blek];
you once said "i believe the world to be a muffin pan..." which is a perfectly
sane statement other then, um...what does it mean?
How did you know I said that??? Freak, I will not explain!
oh, you said that in a previous [and overall better] interview, silly! [blek]
what's so great about chaos?
you seem to empower it through your music,no?
Good question. I don't know if I'd consider what I do to be chaos, rather complicated.
It's just the way it turns out. I don't beleive I can get my thoughts across
with a predictable structure and sound pallete and I want my music to come alive
as an entity unto itself without worrying that it won't be compatible with other
records. Chaos - everything in this world is chaos. A french fry just fell on
the ground, 40 billion things just happenend all at once.
>>>did you know?
winnipeg was the first city with "911" ?
[blek]
finish this lyric: "macho macho man, i want to be a _____ ___ [?]
Female impersonator.
do you really?
No.
your last name is funk, which is great for a guy who makes music...my last
name [the one given to me by my hu-mon parents] is kruger, as in freddy kruger
of nightmare on elm street fame, an association that followed me all through
the 80's;my question then is: texas chainsaw massacre or evil dead, which rocked
harder?
Evil Dead. Although Texas Chainsaw is great too, I've got a Leatherface doll,
came with the hammer and the bucket, now how *censored*ing cool is that???
that's actually pretty gross...now,yer a big guy, does this pose problems
for you or your partner/s?
Well, my girlfirend is about a foot shorter than I am, but we do ok!
with a girlfriend you probably dont envy those cheesy dj types who seemingly
get all the chicks...?
I don't envy anybody, people can all *censored* off.
i personaly think tweaked ass high school ravers are dirty scum and should
all fnck off...were you one of them back in the day?
No. I dropped out of high school well before I started going to parties.
that sucks, for the sake of hilarity, what are yer favourite records of all
time?
Anything by Gordon Lightfoot.
and finaly,is there any reason people SHOULDN'T buy all yer records and
emulate and worship you?
No.
that's what i thought
