Hello Steve! First I'd like to say its a pleasure to interview you, and thanx for helping get electro nooze off to a roaring start! So who stands out in your mind as interesting artists in the electronic world today?
Those that immediately spring to mind are boards of canada, aphex twin, gimmik, beta band, stereolab, broadcast....however most of the stuff I listen to is old.
How would you describe your style?
Instrumental, psychedelic using melodies to lull you into a false sense of security
before we *censored* with your mind.
when/where/why did you get started?
We started in Bristol as myself and toby coincedentally lived in a shared house
there for a while, we were both playing around with some music, myself electronic/synth
stuff, toby guitar/fourtrack, so we decided to do some composing together, mix
up our influences........what came out was an interesting cacophany. However
all of our tracks so far were done after we both moved to london, we are definitely
not a bristol band we're a north london band.
What kind of hardware/software do you use to make you music?
atari, mac, analog synths, guitar, secuencer, four track, what ever old bits
of machinery we find lying around the place.
How does the The 1001 Revolutions fit into your plans as an artist?
It's a nice little time capsule of the last few years.
Whats your favorite track on 1001? why?
I like orangecoals,
because when it all comes together it makes the hairs on the back of my neck
stand on end.
How did worm and you hook up?
Just out of coincedence, even though we are completely different from everything
on their label they could see where we were coming from musically, even though
we are not 'electronica' we try to get our sound to reach the same cerebal places.
We love all the stuff on worm also.
Whats the most important thing for aspiring pro artists to remember?
chords, melody, soul
Whats on your playlist right now?
Alexander Skip Spence-Oar The The - Soul Mining Prince -Dirty Mind
There is a strong current of funky grooves in your music that makes for
a new yet reflective take on music today: where do you see future electronix
going?
I think it's going to merge more with the organic, until there are no classes
of music apart from good or bad.
What does the future look like for Fort Lauderdale?
We just want to keep putting out thought provoking stuff
What do electro nooze readers need?
More alchohol
What do you prefer and why: Hardware or software?
Hardware. It's more fun.
CDs or MP3s?
I am a total mp3 convert
minimal or noise?
abit of both?
www.iuma.com or www.mp3.com?
www.napster.com
altoids or tic-tacs?
tic tacs
Last words?
good luck with the nooze
Thanks Steve! May the force be with you! ........
